Ann M. Carlyle, NCTM Director (At-Large)

Presidential Award winner Ann Carlyle teaches kindergarten at Ellwood School in Goleta, Calif. Carlyle is currently finishing up her service chairing the editorial panel of Teaching Children Mathematics. She has also served as a reviewer for the Educational Materials Committee and a speaker at annual and regional NCTM meetings.

"Because I am an elementary school classroom teacher, I come into contact on a daily basis with students and the parents of these students. I have no doubt these parents want the best possible mathematics education for their children, yet that mathematics may look very different from the instruction they had when they were in school. I hope that my practical experience and regular opportunities to listen to public concerns such as these will be useful to the Board."
